Statement
I am fascinated by the idea of turning what society often discards into something beautiful and thought-provoking, so I find my passion working with found materials to create assemblages. My goal is to explore all form of materials, pushing myself to “paint” with whatever I can find. I believe that everything has potential, and I enjoy discovering new ways to use it.
I start by collecting objects that catch my eye. Their shapes and colors inspire me, and I think about what they once were and how they make me feel. Each piece has a story, and I want to bring that story to life in a new way.
As I arrange and reshape the materials, I try to keep a connection to their original intended use. Welcoming surprises and experimentation, letting the process guide me. Patterns, textures, and colors naturally emerge while I work, blending painting, collage, and sculpture into one.
Tapping into an existing emotional space based in fantasy, I try to bring its essence into reality. A piece feels complete when it captures a strong emotion and stands on its own, inviting others to pause, reflect, and connect.

Biography
Scott Hill, born in 1967, is a lifelong New Jersey resident whose deeply spiritual connection to art has shaped his journey as a creator. From a young age, Scott displayed an innate affinity for design, immersing himself in drawing, painting, building, and sculpting, a passion that has remained with him throughout his life. Raised as an only child in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, in the shadow of New York City, his early years were marked by creative exploration, spending countless hours after school experimenting with materials like nails, wire, cardboard, and wood on his father’s basement woodworking bench.
Growing up in a large, musically and theatrically inclined extended family, Scott’s artistic expressions were nurtured by those around him, reinforcing his natural talent. His childhood interest in drawing evolved into a deeper passion for illustration, influenced by the fantastical landscapes of artists such as Roger Dean, Rodney Matthews, and Stanley Mouse, whose album cover art and fantasy novel illustrations became his early inspirations. Later, the work of Maxfield Parrish and Alberto Vargas guided him toward realism, where he began exploring watercolor, gouache, pen, and ink techniques.
Scott’s path as a professional artist took a significant turn in 2004 when he pursued a two-year apprenticeship in tattooing, leading to a 20-year thriving career in the craft. In 2011, he founded the Scott Hill Collective, a private tattoo and art studio located in Bergenfield, New Jersey, where he continues to cultivate an environment of artistic excellence. The Collective has now become a home for numerous resident and guest tattoo artists, piercers and also represents many traditional artists as well, The space reflects Scott’s ongoing commitment to blur the boundaries between tattoo art and fine art.
As his painting career evolved, Scott began studying modern art, drawing inspiration from pioneers such as Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, and Lee Bontecou. His immersion in modern abstract impressionism, particularly the style of Assemblage, reinvigorated his artistic process. Today, Scott blends illustration with construction, using diverse materials and techniques to create sculptural paintings that evoke dreamlike worlds at the intersection of architecture and nature.
Scott Hill’s work reflects a lifelong commitment to living art, exploring the interplay between creativity, materials, and the human spirit. His journey, from a curious child to an accomplished tattoo artist and sculptural painter, is a testament to the magnetic pull of art in his life—a force that continues to drive his passion and push him toward new creative horizons.
